Pigs & strangers

Good evening, readers

Over the past two days, a friend of my boyfriend came to visit. Flora's response to his presence was very interesting. When he first came into the apartment, I watched her listening intently to his voice. She rarely displays this concentration except when something is really interesting her (like when the fridge's crisper drawer is opening!).

I'm not sure if her reaction was true or coincidental, but it was definitely intriguing. Do you find your pets (or pets you have met) behave differently toward strangers?

Sincerely

Sarah

  1. Yes, I have noticed that. My chinchilla, Wicket, tweaks out when new people come over. I always want to show him off to people and have them pet him because he is sooo soft, but sometimes I can't get him out of the cage because he is so scared.

  2. My one male cat "Smudge" is a very anti-social cat to most people... to say it as honestly as possible-he pretty much hates everyone except for me and one friend of mine. I find it very weird because this friend of mine only comes over about once a month and every time she does he remembers her and is so affectionate towards her, always around her and always wants to cuddle with her - if anyone else comes with her or comes by while she is here and sees it, they even point out how strange it is that he likes her so much considering he hates everyone - its strange... I think animals are really interesting - I see huge personalities in all my pets and i see that you see huge personality in your pet too.

  3. My bunny Gracie hates most everyone. She looks cute and innocent, but as I worn people, she thirsts for the blood of those who are fooled. I should enter her in some type of ultimate bunny fighting championship. Hehe the thought of that makes me smile.

I also just got your Twilight comment. There's an apple on the cover of the book. And also there's a scene with an apple in the movie! I think it goes back to the Adam and Eve story. The forbidden fruit. How romantic! TEAM EDWARD!!! :)

  4. My dog Taz is weird towards some of the people that show up to our house. For the most part after a few minutes she will start jumping on you and your her new BFF.
We have one friend who is deaf and when Taz was younger she would growl and we would have to hold her back (because of the way he talks) but now that she is losing her hearing they are great friends and she only chases him down when we tell her too ;)

  5. The horse I had growing up was always very interesting when it came to strangers. As you probably know, horses are very intuitive in sensing anything uneasy. I always found it interesting his behaviour when it came to people around him who were scared of horses compared to those who were more calm around him.

Basically, what it boiled down to, was he was more squirmy and prancy around people who were frightened of horses. But with those who were comfortable, he would be more playful and try nudging and rubbing his face against them. That is why I am a firm believer that people who are afraid of horses will always be frightened because they actually tend to make horses act the way they do around them.

  6. I am interested to hear about everyone's pets. I had a crazy budgie last year that would sing like crazy whenever someone new came the house, but my ex husband, and the next door neighbour she'd squawk so bag we'd have to put a cover over the cage.
